Bees are important to 38 Degrees members. Whether it’s campaigning to keep dangerous pesticides at bay or planting bee-friendly seeds across the country, 38 Degrees members have always come together to do whatever it takes to protect our buzzy little friends. This year, thousands of 38 Degrees members are coming together and planting 60,000 packets of seeds across the UK. That’s the equivalent space of three major cities full of wildflowers!


Each packet of bee-friendly seeds costs about £3.50 to produce and send, but we know that not everyone will be able to afford to donate. That’s why we are asking anyone who is able to donate to chip in and help us send out as many seeds as possible. HOW TO PLANT YOUR SEEDS

If you're planting seeds, we'd love to see how you’re getting on! Please share your photos with us on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #SeedsForBees2023.

You can plant your seeds directly outside during April. Just find a nice sunny spot in your garden and sprinkle your seeds over damp earth. Cover them with 1cm of soil and water regularly. It won't be long until your bees come buzzing!

You can also plant your seeds in a pot or a windowsill box. You can plant them inside at any time of the year, or plant them outside during April. Alternatively, you can start them off inside, before moving them outside when the weather is warmer.

If you don’t have a plant pot available, you can reuse any small plastic container. An empty yoghurt pot, a spare cosmetics tub, or the plastic tray that your supermarket fruit and vegetables come in would all be perfect! It’s helpful to punch a small hole in the bottom of the container for water to drain though.

If you’ve got some compost, it’s a good idea to mix it in with soil - but otherwise just normal soil will work. Place your damp soil in the pot and sprinkle your seeds on the earth, then cover them with 1cm of soil, and lightly water again. Then all you need to do is place your container in a warm sunny spot and water every few days (or when the soil is dry). Before you know it, your bee friendly seeds will start to grow! Then just sit back and wait for the bees.
